The first places that come to mind to check out are (in no particular order):

http://www.ar15.com/
http://www.homegunsmith.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.cgi
http://www.cncgunsmithing.com/
http://www.falfiles.com/forums/index.php

I'm sure there are others but this should get you started.

Welcome to the addiction.

Heres mine I'm working on a billet one.

http://stuff.jfettigmachines.com/ar15/milling/

Check out homegunsmith.com, if you subscribe, theres a ton of good files in the library, guides to machining those and everything.

PM me with your e-mail address and I'll get you the proper blueprints for machining it.

I'd say the only tuff part would be the mag well, these are nomally broached. Also keep in mind, the lower is the part of an ar-15 that has the serial nos. so watch out the ATF boyz might be looking, good luck.

The magwell is the hardest part in my opinion.

Not having a serial number IS legal on a homebuild that YOU yourself build and only YOU posess. it cannot be sold or given away. its a good idea to put one on because most of cops are uneducated in home building.

I am using a Sieg x2 mini mill retro'd.

any info on the format of serial numbers?

would "SN:ID10T-XXXXXX" (x= random digit 1-9) work? lol

opcode1300,
If you put on a serial no. wouldn't that make you a firearms manufacturer? I'd make sure you know exactly what the Fed., State and Local laws are. The ATF WILL put the SMACK DOWN on you if your caught doing anything even remotely illegal. And think of the ramifications...can you say felony? Anyhow maybe Mr. Fettig is right but check to be sure.

I think that the ATF prefers you to put a serial number on and if memory serves me correctly, they will assign you a # if you want to put it on the rifle.

The best thing is to go to the AFT site and download the pertinent info.

I don't know all the ins and outs dealing with the ATF, I'm still bogged down with the State Department as for as exporting. Here's my system for taking care of "Problems with the Neighbors".

I'm currently using a Shopmaster 3 in 1 but if I start selling I've got to add something more substantial.

Glad to see some AR guys out there.

Ron
