Hey guys. I bought the plans for the copycarver and built one of those. Then I modified it pretty much the way that bgolash has his set up. Then I bought the model that Harbor Freight sells. And now that I have a CNC I sold my duplicators. I spent about $400 making my carver and about $250 on the H.F. model. The H.F. model was more accurate. But hands down, CNC is the way to go. Just thought yoiu might want to know what my experience was.

    New Guy

    Hi guys,

My name is Bob. I am new here and was looking for links to copy carvers. I built one off the net a few years back and then, just lately have designed and built a reducing carver. I found out that there was something like it back in the 1800's and was told there was something similar now. It carves and reduces free standing sculptures, not just relief carvings.
I was told a company named La Nova Scolptice made something similar.
    Anyone heard of this?
My Reducer Carver can be seen at

    if anyone is interested.

Spott3r go to www.mykaguitars.com/tools/carver/default.htm. This is another rendition of the home made Gemini. The ultimate is www.riflebuilders.com. A good short video is: go to You tube and see the trimming duplicator. These are easy builds, but the Koenig is still the best- see patent number 3,739,824. It is rewarding to learn to do the patent search by going to www.uspto.gov and look for patent number search, then just put in the number. You can read the texts, but first look at the visual image to see if its right for you. hope this is helpful. After viewing the first number, look at several in the 'field'. pw

    duplicating carver.

This reply doesn't have much to do with mirror image, but with carving machines in general. I have been the wood working business for over 40 years and i have seen machines come and go. In my opinion nothing can beat a cnc machine, but if like myself you can,t afford one. build your own. I did my research on the machines available and the gemini carver is one of the best. The only problem is that machine so over priced it is unreal. I set out to make my own and i believe i have made a machine which works as well as the gemini with allot less costs. I am in the process of patenting it now. My machine sells for $1400.00 . Some of the differences are the bearings i use and the braking system i use. i use all pillowed bearings with ground and heat treated rails. this makes it almost impossible for the machine to move in any wrong direction or chatter. the braking is a must. after building my machine and using it i realized the brake was there for a reason. i also sell the plans. lf anyone is interested in it, you can go to ebay and see the machine. or contact me. i am willing to help anyone build one.
