I had some scrap plastic that was roughly the shape I needed. I tapped an M8 thread and the cylinder screwed directly onto this.
4 holes were also required at 75mm pitch to mount to the back of the LCD panel with M4 screws.
Hello folks,
Really not sure where to post this ramble !!!
Well in attempt to win the daftest post on the zone here's a post on the crazy stuff you can end up doing when try to escape the wife....
Basically The LCD screen I was using on my 'cnc' pc in the garage was taking up desk space. Not good
To make things worse I was recently grinding some metal and noticed the screen getting showered in good old sparks. Some dope decided to fit his vice near the screen![]()
So in attempt to reduce bench clutter I decided to suspend the LCD screen from the roof joists. The problem being that the actually working heights I would like and storage heights are different. After a few crazy ideas I thought about using a pneumatic cylinder (My garage now has compressed air).
A bit skipratting soon turned up the bits I needed and a prototype made.
The end of the cylinder had an 8mm thread.

Screen shots showing LCD in the lowest position. An ideal working height !
Now for the saddest video posted. At the flick of a switch the screen can be raised or lowered..
The screen is twisting at the moment but with the cables fastened correctly this should stop.
Video of it in action is here.

Now time to get back designing CNC MKII
Cheers
Inspired! Fantastic!
For an added twist, you could add a webcam with some motion detection software, so if anyone tries to half inch your PC: solenoid full throttle....WHUMP!!
Yeh..... Thats an idea
Actually I never dabbled with pneumatics much but after messing around with this I'm interested in using them on CNC MKII. Not sure what however, but I was thinking about running a small 'exhaust' pipe near the spindle that pulsed a jet of air at certain frequency. It may help the vacuum system or at the very least clear the cutter area.
A rainy day project.....
Pretty fancy!
I was going to do something similar for a dust/noise enclosure but ended up moving the machine, so the idea went into the can.
Looks impressive!

Consistency is a good thing....unless you're consistently an idiot.
nice work!!!! i had been looking into this http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=LCD-176&cat=MON
love it when i see someone on here do this kinda stuff
Thats the dogs danglies! (That is what you Brits say, right?)![]()
(Note: The opinions expressed in this post are my own and are not necessarily those of CNCzone and its management)
