I can see that open linear bearings (ese pic below) will work very nicely on supported rails of the right diameter my question is - do the rails have to be mounted any particular way up? I have in mind bolting them to the side of a structure, instead of on top of it hope that makes sense?!? |

| Generally the manufacturers of the components have a catalog with a tech./eng. section. They will include load limits including directional loads (up, down, side etc.) Some even have blocks with tapped holes in the sides for mounting as you are thinking of doing. Dick Z
