    Hobby Project Wanted

    Hello All,

I am looking to assist a Hobby Builder with their project, Pro Bono. I am looking for something very unique and uncommon. A radical new design of RC Helicopter, UAV, Airplane or Rock Crawler origin. Send me the plans you have and if it looks interesting enough I will make it. You will receive one Bad A@# project and in return I will cover the build on my website for promo purposes.

    Thanks,

    Brent

Make a CNC photo album just like this one I featured on CNCCookbook that belongs to Larry Ellison:

A Photo Album for Machinists and Billionaire Playboys « CNCCookbook

Instead of leather, like he used, glue down some carbon fiber in pockets.

Use the stuff from this sample set, it rocks:

Carbon Fiber Like You’ve Never Seen Before | Carbon Fiber Gear

You'll have a photo album when you're done that people will not soon forget!

I'll be happy to PM you my address so you can send mine along, LOL.

    Cheers,

    BW

    Bob,

Very Nice, But I'm looking for something a little more mechanical. But I will still keep it in mind. I still have some .500" 6061-T6 plates in stock

    Thanks

Hmmm, when I think "mechanical", I have to factor in degrees of complexity. Some very cool projects are a lot of work.

For example, there is a great thread on here somewhere about backlash free rotary tables where they talk about making cycloidal drives. I couple have done it. Very cool stuff, but complicated.

I have wanted to make a 4th axis myself that's capable of relatively high (2000) rpm so it can also be used for mill-turning. Something like what Simpson36 has done if you search him out on YouTube:

[nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8l6lH4ydd4&feature=player_embedded"]YouTube - 4thAxis shaving splines (or gear teeth) on mini machining center[/nomedia]

    Again, pretty complex.

Moving down in complexity, a nice spindle always gets a lot of attention around here. If you put one together that'll do 8K rpm with an R8 taper, peeps will come running. Fit a toolchanger-capable drawbar, and you get even more excitement.

Continuing along those lines, powered drawbars get good attention too.

That's a few ideas. There are more on my projects page:

CNC Cookbook: Bigger Project Wish List

I've always loved that planetary gear 5C chuck. Build one of those with some readily available from eBay (Ford or Chevy auto-tranny gearset) planetary gears and that'd be a winner too.

    Cheers,

    BW

I guess I don't understand why you would need a hobby project for promo purposes. According to your site you do a lot of high end work, why not show some of that work? Military Tooling?

Not much money, nor would it impress someone looking for Aerospace parts to see R/C hobby parts as a promo.

    Brent,

Would you be interested in making a model airplane engine? In addition to advertising on your website, you can market that on a couple of leading R/C forums, too.

I think i have a couple of plans.

To answer your question, the Government/ Military work is very profitable but also very demanding and by the book. The Gov't purchasing agents who purchase the tools don't care about your website only your bid, After your contract is issued they care about delivery lead time and quality.

To showcase Hobby parts on the site will appeal to the millions of Hobby builders throughout the world. Not the small handful of Military buyers. This is a market any CNC Machine Shop would want to be involved in. So instead of spamming a forum with" CNC Machine shop services for the hobbyist" I figure I approach it differently and become a contributing member of the group. But if you have any Govt contracting questions I would be more then happy to answer them.

    Bob,

Where are the Blueprints and/or CAD files available for some of these?

Thanks, already well versed in that area. Just had trouble connecting the two and what you were looking for
