Question What's best?

Hi, I'm new to the CNC World. I have the chance to buy a mostly completed CNC router table. It has 2 stepper motors on the X axis (one either side) and drives via a rack and pinion. I would have thought a single motor in the centre would be better, with linear slides on the outside? The table length is about 1.8m. I would welcome your opinions on best design, rack+pinion vs leadscrew, 2 motors vs 1.... etc.
