Default Ripples and Waves on the CNC Machine

Hi guys I want to machine something like this

Ripples and Waves on the CNC Machine-4c4fac90b1ac6eb1396aab75491eb08c-jpg

I've worked out how to make uniform circular ripples with the aid of Photoshop and custom gradients, but I like the none uniform more fluid effect. Any know and willing to explain how I can create my own designs like the above?

    Many Thanks

depending on the tools you are using and the material you are cutting, you can get the same effect by just using a "z-level" roughing option on a smooth 3d surface. Even the cheapest CAM software will have this option. Using a ball end mill or flat end mill will obviously give you different effects.

Thanks guys. I'll have a try. Have been using grasshopper and rhino on a free trial to create a few different effects. My experience is zero and the learning curve is high. So far I have an egg box effect!

in my opinion, for you would be simplest to modeling it..
the two panel are identical, but mirrored..

there are programs you can simulate fluideffects.. unfortunately they require some math background..

probably wolfram math would make it simple.. but again, without schools we are locked out of that option..

Artisan Plugin (SDS2).....Cave ? SketchUcation Community Forums

WebGL Demo ? Fluid Simulation With 512k Particles

    https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-code-samples

also i believe smoke also create very similar turbulences..

    good luck with your project..

i made some samples to show you..
first i straightened the picture with corel
made a ridge, and a hill..
    i imported the obj model

in detail.. i thing laying out the edgeflow would be better in a program can import bitmap and create vectors as dxf..

next you can make the facets betwen the layout

    subdivide and done..

but true, a program what makes it with variables and with one click, a lot simpler..
    however that need math background..

Thanks for the help. I wanted to avoid manually sculpting or modelling as the geeky side of me likes the maths.

Ripples and Waves on the CNC Machine-woop-jpg

I've managed to cobble something in Rhino and Grasshopper and using "z*sin(rad(x*50))*sin(rad(y*50))" without quotes it gives the above image.

I'll have a look at those links you've posted. Just going to try the code in the previous link

thats cool.. i read about grasshopper..
recently a work involved tesselations.. man.. thats a different world.. folks who knows it they makes just on finger tip a java applet..
others can make with grasshopper, or cinderella.. or geometers sketchpad..

while im not pride for, but i take it, im ""undereducated""
and not capable to understand this higher math..

what jerry made a little program, that shows the reality..
he made it as a passion,,, others might learn this one program on hard way.. but the next project will causing again difficulties and again makes it looking for a program that create something...

    check this out..
please note the mouse movement makes like a trail..

    JS1k 2010 - 131 -

in this another you can place a bitmap, and this bitmap will be distorted.. like ripples-waves going..
probably you save any state with prntscrn

Unfortunately I don't understand much but I like to try and get a grasp on it to see how it works.

    That attachment is pretty cool!

AutoCAD has a sculpting program that I believe will post a stl. Not sure if the free version will though.

I have AutoCad. Took the advantage to get it whilst I was a student. Indefinite license for a small fee!

So far with the wave surface program I'm only really getting a mixture of droplet ripples. Nothing flowing if you get my meaning.
