I have been trouble shooting a HT-30 with a Seicos A10l control. The alarm I am getting is a 1018 "Z communication Pulse Error". I am at the point where I think the encoder is bad on my Z axis motor. this is a $900 encoder so I want to be sure before I order it. does anybody have a clue if I am on the right track?

Is the alarm immediate before standby? You could try swapping the encoder leads across the servo to confirm. But sounds like you are on the right track. Also - with machine not moving, swing around the Z-Axis cables just to make sure there isn't a disconnect in your wiring

the Alarm is after hydraulics are turned on and I try to move Z in handle. I am now getting another alarm saying I have a voltage surge. I think I may have more issues than I first anticipated. looks to me like the main power supply might be the issue. Thank you for your help.

the spindle drive was bad. we ended up trading our machine in since a new drive is $14,000 and a rebuilt drive is $4,000. machine isn't worth the money we put into it.
