| hardinge conquest 42 tailstock Does anyone know how to adjust the tail stock on this machine ? |

| There is usually bolts or screws in the bottom plate to move it in X axis. Be sure to unclamp it from the ways before doing so. |

| How do align it with the spindle though ? |

| I would first chuck on a shaft & turn to make sure the headstock is in line with the Z axis. Then center drill the shaft & either indicate it, or take a cut & move the tailstock till there is no taper. |

We use a Coax indicator mounted in the collet. There are 2 bolts (on our 42s) that need loosening. They are on the bottom of the tailstock. You can only adjust in the direction of the slant bed. The other direction is what it is, and I've never seen one that had zero runout. You could also mount a magnet based indicator on the spindle face, but that requires a little more care not to move the base while moving the spindle. |
