Hi, I have a Hardinge CHNC 4-16C Lathe. I just powered it up today and everything works except the spindle. I'm getting an alarm 2009 "Spindle Brake On". Does anyone know how to turn the spindle brake off? I looked through all the manuals and they don't say anything. ANY help would be appreciated! Sean |

Sean, Some of these had the GE spindle drive and some had the Inland drive. If I remember correctly, there's a small interface board near the bottom of the right panel that measures the current flow in the DC motor's 90 volt brake. The brake must be energized to release and this board detects current flow in the windings of the brake and allows the spindle drive to start. You might want to find the wire numbers for the brake and see if there is 90V DC across the winding. If that's all OK, check for a red alarm light on the GE spindle drive (if that's what you have). Good luck, Warren |

| Not directly familiar with the CHNC4 but on CHNCI's and CHNCII's there is a small Clippard valve in the solenoid cabinet in front, by your feet where you would stand to operate the machine. I have replaced these before to solve that alarm. Good luck. |
