    Hardinge Superslant GN-6 RS232 Comm

    Hi there,

I have a Hardinge Superslant GN-6, recently got mastercam and am using Cimco transfer software. Played with all the settings and using a 'Smart' cable was able to transfer off the lathe to the laptop without issues.

I can't seem to get it to read into the lathe though. Anyone have any hints on the proper CR/LF and other parameters I should be using?

    Much appreciated, thanks

    Dave

    Hi Dave,

Sorry if this reply is late, I just read it today 11-19-08.
I also use Mastercam (X3) and CIMCO Edit (ver 5.12.06) to run my Conquest 42. I'm connected to the lathe RS-232 from my laptop PCMCIA port which uses a Quatech card and drivers.

My DNC settings in CIMCO are

    PORT:
    stop bit: 2
    parity: even
    baud rate: 9600
    data bits: 7

    TRANSMIT:
    \10\13

All other DNC settings in CIMCO were left as default.

    Dave,

When you attempt to read at the control, disconnect the cable and see if you get an alarm. This means that port is set correctly and it is trying to read in. If not, then something might be up with sending port or cable (smart switches).

Hey thanks John and gm3211, I finally got it a while back there. My settings are very similar to those John had below, can't recall for sure off hand but it turned out to be the handshake transmit protocol. I ended up downloading another transfer protocol program, it worked so I took the same transmit protocol number (i.e. \10\13 or whatever) and used it in CIMCO edit.

    Thanks again!
