do you mean the turret is out of alignment?

The way I align this machine is off the face of the turret for body to the z axis. To align the turret face you need a coax indiacator. Mount it in the spindle with a collet. Then sweep in a tool holder. Should be zero at the top and bottom of the holder. To adjust you need to take off the front plate/cover that has the station numbers on it. once off loosen the outer most bolt pattern. leave these kinda snug but not tight. DO NOT INDEX TURRETWITH THESE LOOSE!! then tap the turret the direction you need off a tool holder and a dead blow hammer. Or use a brass punch. Then once you get it where you need it retighten that bolt pattern you loosened up. Center of tool holder should be zero on machine position. To re-set this. Set PWE to 1, look for parameter 1815.4 under "x-axis APZ" should be a "1". Change to "0" Then the machine will need to be powered off and on again. On power up you will get a apz alarm... its ok. Sweep the tool holder in again and then jog the x axis to the home position. and set that parameter back to a "1" again. Then cycle power and you should be good.

You can do it that way by banging it around I guess. But there is a more controled method:

When you remove the turret cover, there are a two bolt holes in the lower right hand corner of the turret base. These holes are for a simple tool. Someone in my shop bumped the turret hard enough to move it out. Remember, this turret has a break-away design to protect the ways from harm. In other words, the turret will move from an impact somewhat easy so as to take the hit and not transfer the force into the ways.

So, the first time this happened, I called Hardinge. The Tech came out and I watched him carefully. He used this tool to act as mechanical advantage. That turret is heavy! I am shocked that you were able to move it around with a hammer! This tool bolts down to the base and has a through bolt that you turn to apply mechanical force to dial in the turret to dead nuts.

Then you bolt down the turret. Then you need the re-zeroing procedure from Hardinge. You missed a procedure that Hardinge has in their directions. You must add two numbers together to set the new X0.0, But you were close in your explaination. Back in the day, Hardinge was awesome about phone/fax service. I got my copy simply asking the Hardinge tech on the phone.
