Hardinge chnc spindle hunting & blowing fuse

Hi
i have the problem of the spindle Hunting back and forth over a short distance , of say 1/4" this speeds up to the point after 15 - 20 sec's of blowing 2 of the main 3ph fuses .

is uses a Kollmorgan 6Phase SCR Servo amp HPA Series
i'm thinking it's just the servo amp , but could this be someting more serious
and how to check etc .

Thanks

I just fixed my chnc was the main spindle encoder. I just wondering how many amp fuses are you running? The second thing is to check the spindle encoder and see if you have a scratch on the pickup or if it's to far away from the wheel. These things need to be set between .004 to .008 away. I'am thinking you encoder is messing with you but keeps blowing your fuse before you get all the alarms.

good luck

for any one else with this type of problem , we found that it was down to dry'd out capacitors in the servo drive .

thanks for the heads up on the encoder i'll check that
