Milling and turning D2 61Rc

I'm cutting down D2 blades and in the past used round ceramic inserts. But because of the shape and difficulties holding the workpiece in my Mori Seiki lathe, I'd like to face mill them in my vmc. What brand etc. is everyone using to cut the parts hard? I can easily clamp them on my Technomagnete magnet if I can obtain a facemill of some sort that can withstand mild to severe interrupted cuts. Any advice would be appreciated!

I don't really do a lot of hard milling these days. But we used to use Iscar's IC903 grade on 60-62RC D2, those we solid carbide endmills though. Not too sure what grade of inserts we've got for doing hard stuff like that as I spend most of my time in front of a lathe at the moment. If you've got an interrupted cuts I would look at something like Sandvik's 670 grade if they do something similar for millling, it's a whisker re-inforced ceramic & we use this grade a lot for re-maching D2 rollers of similar hardness & it seems to handle the interrupted cuts as well as if not better than CBN or any other ceramic we've tried.

Do you have the option to send these parts out for CNC Grinding??
You may want to see what ATI Stellram and Ingersoll have for hard D2 Machining.

These guys specialize in Hard Turning and Milling.

I didn't get emails that anyone replied, lol, so here is a thread with tons of pictures of what I finally did to finish the job. Thanks for the replies and I'll DEFINITELY be looking into those inserts you mentioned for next time. Thank you both!!
