sounds like a riv-nut
Maybe a bit off the track of this forum BUT
Ive seen a hand tool that looks like a pop rivet gun that inserts a sort of rivet or a T nut type thing with a thread in the centre.
Ive seen it used to mount things in house plaster walls and also in radio cases to attach mounting brackets via threaded bolts
Can anyone tell me what the device is called??
sounds like a riv-nut
look in the hanson rivet book or web page see if it looks like it.
Does it attach one of these (pic 1) or does it attach a BUTTERFLY plasterboard nut? Or is it the gadget in the second pic?
I love deadlines- I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.
I think you are referring to a special nut that is partially compressed or crimped into a sheet metal panel in a fashion that conveniently allows you to tighten the fastener sufficiently, and then inconveniently spins upon the first attempt to remove the fastener.
The name of this system escapes me at the moment... Penn Nut? I can't recall.

Consistency is a good thing....unless you're consistently an idiot.
Hi nev,
I have the same kit as the one at the top of this page:

I assume this is the sort of thing you are looking for?

P.S. you can set what thickness sheet metal you are using so it doesnt overcompress it, but usually you need to set slightly smaller than accual so it wont move after few uses.
