    usb adaptors

I went from a usb port to a 9-pin adaptor to a 25 pin adaptor into my HAAS VFOE and am not having any luck. Page 343 of book two on the new Bobcad V23 manual says usb ports MIGHT work. Anybody have any ideas? Im told different usb adaptors are wired differently. My computer only has usb ports!

good luck, I bought 4 different usb adapters for my fadal cause my office pc only had USB ports. only one worked. then I said screw it pulled out a rs232 pc(old one) and use it to transfer files only as its not good for anythign else. and it has a USB port. so I take the usb stick from my office pc to the shop pc.

The guys in the Fadal forum have said what brand to use of the USB adapters, and there pretty much spot on cause once I bought one of those it worked.

One of these days I am going to get a few new pcs and have my daughter network them in and into the machines. shes a whiz at that.

Make sure your usb stick is 2 G or smaller for HAAS, some of the larger sizes won't load and save proberly.

I've tried using a USB to 9pin before when trying to run a small techno router. The problem I had, even though i had all the current drivers for everything, the problem came down to how the adapter converted the signal. I read somewhere that it might have something to do with how a USB port communicates vs. an actual serial port. I know there are PCI cards with serial ports on them, but I'm not sure how well they work. The only solution I can come up with, if you want a newer computer, is to build a custom motherboard that comes with a serial port. Cheap enough to do, just have to decide if it's worth it do your needs.

As for us, we don't need to drip feed programs larger then what would fit on a floppy, so when the drive started failing on our VFO we bought a cheap USB(Floppy) drive off ebay. Installed it no problem and it works great. The only down side is you have to use the software that comes with the drive and format your USB stick into smaller 1.44MB Partitions. So using a 64GB Thumb Drive is silly, so I bought a 4GB for 4bucks and just use that. It's smooth, fast, and behaves exactly like the floppy drive.

So until I can get the boss to give me unrestricted access to the credit card (never happen) and can build systems for each of our machines, I'll be using this method as these drives start failing. The age of the floppy is going away, and the USB Floppy drives seem fickle. We use one currently and it only works when it feels like it.
