I have a huge project ahead of me and hope that I can get some help. We have aquired a VF3 (1996?) from a plant that had a central coolant system and they had modified the wiring to their coolant sytem. If I can at least find the output for M8 code I can wire that to a relay and eventually to a pump. Any info on the programmable coolant nozzle would be a plus also. Thanks for the help |

| helicoptejohn has a video on hooking up a solenoid for airblast which shows the location of the relays . they have leds on board so you can punch in m8 / m9 in mdi and see which relay controls the contactor for the coolant pump. Here is a link to the video, even though it may no be your exact IO board it should at least get you close |

If you open the electrical cabinet Bottom left of cabinet is i/o pcb about 4 plugs up from bottom right side should be the plug you are looking for. It should be labelled 'coolant' Hope this helps if not I could take a look at a i/o board and get you a plug number. Let me know. |

| I appreciate all the help so far! This is what I have so far. LED light on i/o board lights up when M8 is entered. Found the coolant plug on the i/o board which in turn runs to a 110 volt twist lock plug on the left of the electrical cabinet. When M8 is entered, LED coolant light is lit but no voltage at the coolant plug. When I turn the switch on this panel (see attached pic) there is constant voltage at the coolant plug-M9 or M8 have no effect. |

| Well, there's part of your problem. That's not a switch, it's a circuit breaker and it's supposed to be on all the time. Turn that on and start tracing again. Did they use a relay on the older I/O boards?

Just as Donkey says, that is a circuit breaker, and must be left on all the time. Also, the voltage will always be there on the output on the i/o pcb. Apparently when M8 is commanded, the voltage is switched to earth - which makes the pump run. I would suggest getting a pump and trying it. Hope this helps. |

| the small relay just below the led switches a larger contactor (relay) on and off that handles the pump, I dont know about the older Haas boards but both the newer ones i have there are screw terminals present right above the relay , the contactor it switches will not be located on the circuit board but mounted in the cabinet. |

| The only contactor I can find is the one for the spindle drive unless I am overlooking it which is quite possible. I have attached pics of the relay under the LED for the coolant pump as well as the pics of the cabinet. ![]() Top of cabinet |
