Hour meter on Haas VF cnc machines

How do you find or calculate haas hour meter. I'm looking to buy a used Haas and the hour meter is 8000 but that seems high for a 2005 machine.

is there a certain way you calculate that number to get the hours or is that the correct hours?

thanks in advance

Doesn't it give you a read out of spindle hours, feed hours, and power on hours? cause just cause the machine is on doesnt mean it is cutting.

The machines give you an actual hour reading for the power on, the spindle hours, and the feed hours, as imholta eluded to. The really inportant numbers are the spindle and feed numbers. Some operators have a bad habit of coming in and turning the machine on in the morning and never running the thing. This really increases the power on hours. If you have any doubts about the hours and the type of work the machine has performed, call Haas and ask some questions about service calls, or move on to another machine. Just because the machine has high hours doesn't mean that it has been abused. The machine spindle and feed hours could be high, but the reality is they may for example have only cut soft plastics or something similar for it's life. Trust your gut. Ask about the type of jobs that have been run on the machine, and make your decisions from there.

If you get into the "debug" part of your control, it will tell you all the things you need to know, spindle hours, axis hours, power on time, ect

You would need to do the following, but keep in mind that while on this screen the machine is unsafe and you must make sure to be out of it before machine operation commence.

1. Go to setting 7 PARAMETER LOCK, set it to OFF.

2. Go to ALARM page.

3. Type in DEBUG and press ENTER.

4. You will see NNNNNNN across the screen, this means you are now in DEBUG mode.

5. Go to the diagnostics page and scroll through the pages, you will come to the page with the spindle times.

6. Once you have obtained this information. Go back to ALARM page ENTER debug once more, press enter. Ensure the NNNNNN are gone from the screen, this would mean you are out of the unsafe mode.

hour meter

when in debug mode, the spindle time etc can be found by paging up while in 'position' screen, not diagnostics screen.
Diagnostics screen will tell you number of tool changes.

Hope this helps

I called the Haas factory a while back and was told that the hours would be reset to zero if new software is installed. So if you look at a machine with low hours that looks like it's been used a lot more than what it says - maybe it has.
