Why "Request a quote"?

What's the story behind so many dealers who don't list prices on used machine advertisements?
I've been looking for a used Haas VF for my garage for quite some time and have gotten really tired of filling out "request a quote" forms. If the tool's price was listed I could save the seller and me some time by just skipping over it if I can't afford it.

Cause more than Likely they DONT have it but have smoething close and they want to spam you every week with fresh ad's. plus it gives them one more contact to get ahold of.

The only reason anyone has for not publishing prices is they want to get as much as they possibly can for it. That is with anything. Try to find the price for any new machine on the web. Yes, you can find special advertised prices but you can not find the standard list price. They will try to get as much as they possibly can for it!

One of the main reasons I like shopping Ebay. It doesn't always have the equipment I'm looking for, but I can often contact the previous owner directly (they're often the seller) which is better than talking through an agent. Also, there's a lot more price transparency and I find Ebay auctions typically close a fair bit lower than opening offers from wholesale equip resellers.

If they get you on the phone or can contact you by email it inreases their chance of selling you a machine. They can ask you questions and start to try to sell you on a personal level.

I'm going through the same thing, my email is loaded up with auctions and I'm getting phone calls weekly from 2-3 guys. There are a few web sites that list prices here and there. When you are really serious about buying, find a couple of sales guys to talk to, some of them really know thier stuff. They know what condition the machine is in etc. It can be a real help, or it can be a pain if your just trying to get prices.

Talk to your Haas dealer. The one here in Detroit at least, will find a used machine for you. They deal with people that sell used Hass CNC's. It might cut down on your time to just deal with one guy. They'll be the ones to service the machine for you anyway.
