Gentlemens: Could one of you TM-1 owners tell the the real world dimension from the back of the table to the column of the machine, with the table moved as close to the column as possible? I wish to know how far a vise or other fixturing can overhang the back of the table. Thank you for your help. There seems to be a bit of confusion (at least for me <g>) on this regarding the Haas dimensional drawings. Glenn |

| Well I would guess that you are looking at buying a TM-1. They are great machines for for someone on a budget. I'm not in the shop right now, so doing this from memory. If i remember correctly the distance between the table and the machine column casting is a little over 3.125". This can be amazingly deceptive when your setting up the machine with fixtures and such. the reason I say so is that the sheet metal that covers the Z Ballscrew substracts from this measurement. I never let the fixtures on our TM-1 overhang the table more than 2". I had a Kurt vise mounted on the table with the standard work stop that they sell for the vise that mounts on the back, located on the center T-slot one day and was using short tooling in the spindle and had a crash with the sheet metal on the Z. | I just measured my TM-1 and it's a bit less than 1.6 inches from the back of the table to the front of the Z ballscrew cover. It's tough to get a precise measurement because the cover isn't perfectly flat, but I'd say that 1.58 inches is a pretty safe number. |

| Gentlemen: My thanks to you both for your help. I am beyond the thinking about stage, as I have a TM1 on order. I am now collecting some tooling whist waiting for it to manifest itself here. Based on the information you have provided I have decided to go with the Kurt 688, which appears to be a perfect fit. Best regards, Glenn |

| im not sure about the dimension, but i will say this,i put a vise on mine in the center T slot over hanging the table and it cleared, but when i bolted a stop on the outer backside the cap screw got caught and bent my z axis guard,so watch out for that one as i over looked it and had to straighten it,ive had my TM-1 for 4 1/2 years now, great little machine and no problems, good luck |
