VF2 Random Characters on Control

Whilst drip feeding a program , the bottom line of the control screen strated filling with AAAAAAAAAAAA and the control was bleeping. It has also happened whilst in the offset page with no program running. Both times I hit the estop to prevent any damage. Has anyone any idea what might be causing it

VF2 1995 with software version 7.34
