laptop to control comunication

I am trying to setup comunication between my laptop and a control on my buddies VF-2. I am using a purchased usb cable with a 9 pin male connecter on the other end. I made up an rs232 cable (9 pin to db25) to the specs in the haas manual. It connects to the usb cable and goes to the machine.
Drivers were loaded for the usb cable.
Using predator software I am able to send files to my laptop but the problem is sending programs to the machine.
The machine will just stay in the recieving mode.
The confiusing part is that in the attempts to upload, every once in a while it will suddenly work and send the program up the instant I close the predator side of the communications down.

settings on predator are: 9600,even 7 ,1
haas are: 9600,even,7,1

Could the cable be the problem (bad solder on the send wire)?

Any ideas?

Thanks

When you send programs to the Haas machine you should start and end with a %. I chased this for a few days before I figured it out . I use Bobcad and at the bottom of the send window it asks you the start and end blocks. Yours may have something similar. BL

bl409,

No , % is at beginning and end.

I am going to redo the cable.
Hopefully that will take care of it.

thanks

its probably your USB to serial cable. Most likely you will need to get an pci to serial, the USB ones don't always talk both ways properly.

Laptop comms

I had a lot of trouble when setting my new laptop and new cad/cam but was lucky that i bought the usb to 9 pin from cad/cam company so i let them work it out, it turned out to be the driver for the usb to 9 pin that was at fault once i had the latest driver worked first time.
