    Haas 4th axis question

Our shop has two VF3SS machining centers. Each one has a HRT210 4th axis. Our oldest rotary head just passed the 2 year old mark. The manual says that the oil in the 4th axis should be changed every 2 years. We inquired with Haas Service about getting this done and were told that with the new synthetic oil being used in them that we should never have to replace the oil. Anyone have thoughts on this? I don't know if this claim was backed up in writing but one would think that it wouldn't be wise to run forever on the original fluids.

It probably wouldn't hurt to drain it and inspect the oil for fine wear particles. I don't think much else will happen to the oil unless some coolant wicks its way inside the case. But this unit does not hold all that much oil anyways, so the cost of the oil is not a big concern. I'd say do it if you want to.
First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.
