Thru spindle coolant won't work.

Hi

I just bought a Haas VF2 1998 with Through spindle coolant but it won't work.

Is there a procedure to prime the system or anything like that?

BY not "working" what do you mean? Is the pump motor starting? If so, is the motor turning the correct direction? If the motor is turning the wrong direction then your power is phased wrong. I know that on the newer machines there is a series of led's that indicate proper phasing. This is located near the incomming power connections.

If the pump is not starting you need to check that it is connected properly and if it is check the voltage at that point. There should be a breaker in the panel for the spindle coolant pump.

I hope that some of this helps.

I've been running the machine for about 5 weeks and everything else works fine. The pump turns on but no coolant to the spindle.

You said 'the pump' turns on. Don't TSC machines have two pumps?

Yes, both pumps run and the main coolant is working well but the tsc isn't coming through.

do you have the through collant retention knobs in the toolholders that your using?

the retention knob with the hole through it?

Sorry if this sounds silly but I have done that a few times when setting up new tools

Check your Retention Knobs first then without a tool in the spindle turn the TSC on for a few seconds to see if it works. Just remember to close the door so you don't take a bath in coolant.

Buy me a Beer?

Some machines have an additional fine filter system for thru coolant, check to see if no-one has turned valves OFF, stopping the flow thru the filter system

Quick check for phasing

Have your electrician change 2 of the 3 leads to change the phasing and see if the pump will then pump fluid. I have seen that the phasing indicators do not always work properly. That pump should be the only thing on the machine that needs determination of the correct phasing. Hope this helps!
