For those of you who machine steels at high surface speeds, how do you keep the chips from melting to your way cover wipers? I just got done with some 4140A, beating on it with endmills at 600SFM and had to pick about 100 chips off those wipers. I'm worried that one of those chips may somehow get kicked underneath a wiper and let other chips in. |

| You cross your fingers. ![]() Seruiusly: This is something I have wondered about bcause when you are doing things correctly at those speeds the chips are very hot. The few times I have done this my machine has been been wet with coolant and I have not noticed steel chips melting into the wipers. I suppose, when you come to think about it, you could have coolant turned on spraying everywhere except at the tool and workpiece where you would have the air blast. Thinking further I think I will take action and separate my air and coolant lines so I can do just that; I will be chewing a bunch of holes through steel next week and plan on doing it fast with air. Obviously either DSL PWR is reading my mind, or me his.
