    Alarm 161 on VF-0 **%$#@ now a 139 alarm

Guys, this is driving me crazy. Error 161 on a 1992 Haas VF-0

I have just finished rewiring the x axis motor connection for the forth time. When I first went in to the wiring box on the motor is was so full of wire that I could not see how they were able to fasten the top down.

I cleaned up the mess and the machine ran for another couple of months. It errored out again. I went in and did away with all the funky plastic connectors, soldering and covering with shink tubing.

I got another month out of it before it errored again this time with an alarm 153.

I went in put new connectors in and very carefully hooked every thing up. Turned on the machine it zeroed everything as it should.

I let it sit for an hour and then noticed that it had an alarm again with a 161. Every alarm has been while the machine is sitting idle. This time when I did a power down it left the table on the right front corner and did not return it to X zero as it should.

Does anyone habve any ideas as to where to look for the trouble?

    Thank you
    Lkenney

I would open the rear cabinet and re seat the brown plug connectors on the drive cards..not uncommon for this to fix what you are seeing...

Alarm 161 is a current over load..so it could be the servo, drive card or a mechanical load on the servo..IE: a bad trust bearing, ball screw problems, or the bearings in the bearing pack..or even a bad coupler from the servo to the ball screw..

That said I would still suspect the small brown connectors on the drive card..there are Two sets, one from the Servo Dist PCB to the Drives. And one set from the Drives to the Mocon board...Make sure to power down to do this and let the machine set for ten minutes to dissipate the servo charge..been there done that..

    Good luck..

Thank you, I was able to stay up for a couple of hours before I had to shut down for the evening after pulling the brown plugs.

I hope this fixes it for a while.

139 is X axis encoder alarm..

Might be bad wiring, bad encoder, or worse case bad MOTIF PCB..

can the encoder be replaced seperate from the motor? How difficult is it to get to the encoder. On this machine it is mounted on the rear of the motor under the end cap it looks like. I have not gone further than the wiring box on the motor.

    Thank you,

    Lowell
