lost origin when y axis limit switch trips

i have twice noticed if i have a chip trip the y axis limit switch the next part i put in the machine loses its origin by a couple hundred thousanth in the y axis.

usually after i clear the alarm i reset and home the table reload the program and cycle start.

is this loss of origin something i am doing or is it normal.

thank you

TM1-P with that silly almost exposed Y axis homing switch? The one that gets filled with chips if you are not careful?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. Normally on a Haas machine once the machine has homed after power on the axis never moves far enough to trip the switches; the machines work with soft limits. When the switch is triggered by a chip I think it just sends a sort of fake homing signal to the controller.

The way the Y axis switches are on the TM is okay with the open machines but the enclosed ones are a bit hokey. But I have looked at ours and cannot figure out how they could have done it much different considering the enclosure is an add-on.

that would be the one. lol

so i am going to try clearing the alarm without rehoming machine next time and see if the origin changes again.

i dont have the chip auger option and the chips pile up rapidly.

thank you

I contemplated rigging an airblast to blow the chips away every now and then.

Mickey Mouse something up with an air valve that is turned on every time the toolchanger moves in.

Come to think of it if you have the high flow coolant pump just run a line and have a nozzle constantly flushing past the switch with coolant.

This reminds me of a Mazak with a nice Auger but no Conveyor. The operators used a snow shovel to remove the chips during the roughing ops.

Nice parts. 135lb block of 7075 goes in and within an hour or so only weighs 40 pounds.

Probably use one of the spare M codes to turn it on and off i.e. M56/M66 if you are using a HAAS Machine.

The reason I suggested Mickey Mousing was then you don't have to worry about remembering the M codes in your programs and it triggers if you are running in MDI or jog mode.

i noticed i can set the y axis alarm off with a blast of air from the air gun, maybe because it is blowing debris past the sensor.

Yes and if you get unlucky some chips will wedge in place near the sensor and then you have to take off the way covers.

Don't forget to clean the chips out with a shop vac and make sure the ball screw is clean too.

i ordered a chip auger from haas, waiting for a tech to show up and install it,there were 2 circuit boards included in the package,i guess thats why the auger is priced where it is.
