Question 4.5 axis?

Does anyone here use there 4th axis rotary table mounted on a 45deg. angle?

I saw this option on featurecam or mastercams website. They advertised their new version being able to post code for simultaneous 4 axis on a 45deg plane.

5 axis cadcam ?
i used to use a rotary that was fixed on a sin plate , quite handy under the right circumstances

I thought about the possibility of using a sine plate .This would be handy for gear hobbing. (sine angle would be set to cutters pitch angle. cutting would be in the x and z direction. I havent tried it, but I think multiple passes would be difficult to controll accurately.

I am not looking in to doing this. If I had a blade or blisk to machine I would use a trunion 5th axis. I was just curious if this 4.5axis scenario was being used by anyone with success.

OF COURSE!!! Mount it any angle you want (if it makes sense for the job)! I have often had to get creative with the angle that I mount the Rotary table. Makes things more interesting, also.

In theory it is a Perpendicular Face Plate.

Here is a picture of my 4th axis mounted on an fixed for quick setup angle table, its a VF2.
I use it every day, and works perfect for rough and finish, it is a must for the kind of job we do.
