Adding Memory to older VF3

I know this has been discussed in the past but not with any real information. We have a VF3 year 1998, with 1mb memory. We currently DNC for large 3d programs. The price for adding the 16mb memory is quite high being around $1,400.00. I find this to be an overcharge in my opinion. Has anyone upgraded the memory on their own. If so can you provide instructions and where to locate the memory chip. Thanks

The memory is soldered to the board. When I upgraded my 2005 mini mill, they came out and swapped the 1mb board for a 16mb board.

Probably couldn't do it yourself - maybe you can solder the ram on the board (the boards looked the same, minus the chips) and set the params yourself, but I wouldn't try it...

When I had this upgrade done on my 96 VF3, I also needed an updated Mocon board. That might be something to inquire about. Of course, they will give a core price on the return of the old board, so that makes it not so pricey. But I think the complexity goes up then because software needs to be reloaded and purchased options turned back on. That's what I gathered from the tech who did the work for me (2000 miles away, before the machine was shipped to me).

Sorry if I am in left field but I am new to Haas, I come from a Fanuc/Okuma control background. Anyway on the older Mori Seiki's with Fanuc controls we simply added a hard drive and networked to it through an Ethernet cable like it was another computer. Is that possible with the Haas control?
