I decided to start seeing if our 1998 Haas VF3 can utilize toolpaths for our 3axis mold work beyond the Smoothed Line Segments that we currently output via CAM. We have several options on our toolpath generation as follows for 3 axis cuts: 1) Smoothed Line Segments (we currently use) 2) Arcs 3) Nurbs Spline Curve (nurb spline interpolation) Does the Haas of our age able to do the Arc or Nurbs? thanks |

| Arcs and lines: yes. Splines: no. Are you using Mastercam? MCX has an output option where you specify the tolerance for linearization or arc conversion. Other programs are probably similar. I got better results and smoother operation by using Arcs. The file size was also reduced by 90% (otherwise, it was thousands of little, tiny, line segments).
