Just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing excessive gearbox noise from a Haas VF-11 or other model running a 10K spindle. The sound is similar to a bearing "screech". It's not the spindle but coming from the gearbox area. Machine is less than a year old. Sound is intermittent and starts after running for about a 1/2 hour to an hour. |

| If it's less than a year old, its still in warranty, call your HFO and tell them there's a strange noise from the gearbox and ask them to run a vibration analyzer on it. For what it's worth, if it's a high pitched noise in high gear...I head that on almost every Haas with a gearbox. |

| All the warranty work is still ongoing. HFO and Haas techs have been to our shop working on it. The thing is we are currently on gearbox/motor assy. #7 and all have had the same noise. They have run vib analysis and any other test they could come up with and still scratching their heads. It makes the same sound in high gear and low and at different rpm ranges. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and if so what was the resolve. |

| When you run without the belt on the machine do you still get the same noise? How is the spindle load when you are running it? should be steady. I have seen when the spindle motor parameters are wrong or encoder issues arrise, it sounds like a mechanical vibration or noise but is actually electronic feedback. Check the parameters and the encoder pulleys and belts. 7 trannys in a row? I haven't seen that many issues with a 10k tranny. And it is widely used on Haas products. |

| The belt has been removed on several gearboxes in the past. This is a 10K 40 taper machine with vector drive. Encoders, parameters, boards, drive units, etc. all have been changed at least once. This thing has the Haas guys scratching their heads and probably other parts as well. We are now on assembly #8 with the noise coming back within 8 hours of running. Shows up mostly between 2500 and 4000 rpm's. We have 3 other Haas's that are perfect. They are 7 years old and older and still run great. |

| Everything has been changed except the spindle? Try a new spindle.

| Update - motor / gb assy. #7 ran on our machine for only about 30 hours. Maybe 20 of that actual cutting time. Aluminum only. Motor/GB assy. removed due to noise. Gearbox oil filter bowl, screen, magnet had significant metal debris. By significant I mean something you would expect to see after hundreds or thousands of hours running. It appears to be eating bearings or gears faster than should be. |
