Mini Mill 10K spindle

What is different between the minimill 6K and 10k spindle on the super mini?
Which one or all of the following would have to be replaced to upgrade a regular minimill to a 10K? Same question for a 15K

1. Spindle Cartridge?
2. Spindle Drive?
3. Spindle Motor?
4. Pulley ?
5. Belt?
6. Parameter Change?

Thanks,
1ctf

Geof will become famous soon enough
Easiest way to upgrade from 6000rpm to 10,000rpm is load the slower machine on a big trailer and tow it away then day put a new 10,000rpm machine in it its place.

Yeah, I know, I know, I am being a smart ass but it is a good idea to start the year on flippant footing I think.

The 10,000rpm has a totally different DC power supply and a larger motor. As far as I know the spindle is the same.

Happy New Year

I am pretty sure the bearings in the spindle would be a different class bearing
to handle the rpm and spindle might be balanced better

hope this helps

On the VF-3, at least, the 10k spindle doesn't have a gearbox...but for all I know, the minimill doesn't have one on the 6K.

My VF-2 has the 10K spindle and the gearbox. It was available. It's the 12K that doesn't have the optional gearbox.

Must be nice. The -3 that I run most often at work has a gearless 10k and NO torque. A 4-inch, .060" slitting saw, cutting .250 deep, will stall the spindle. Still, it does a great job running at 10,000 rpm and 500 ipm in graphite. Just gotta use it for what it was made for.

There are 2 10,000 RPM spindles for the VF line, one is a 20 horse, one is a 30. The 20 horse is available with or without the gearbox, the 30 only comes with it. The super mini mill 10K spindle is a 15 horse with no gearbox option.

I'm only talking about 40 taper VF's...the 50 taper 10K stuff is different.
