VF-1 alarm 162 Y axis over current

I'm trying to fix an old vf-1 vmc 1990 that has been sitting for about 4 years! on the shop. I fixed the X and Z servo drives just by changing the MOSFETS. The Y axis seems all right except when moved on rapid (on jog there's no problem) it pops 162 alarm. Someone told me that there was a guy before me, that messed up the parameters trying to fix it. Unfortunately there are no Parameter Backup anywhere. Any Ideas??!!

That machine will have brush type servos and an overcurrent can be caused by a build up of carbon dust inside around the brushes. A crude fix is to simply blow the dust out, a better fix is take the motor apart for proper cleaning and replace the brushes.

VF-1 alarm 162 Y axis over current

Thanks,
I took the motor out, cleaned the brushes and scotch brited the collectors and the brush ends, but no luck! It still gives me overcurrent alarm! The Y axis can only move at 40 to 50 IPM max, until Alarm 162, could it be parameters?

Can you swap the X and Y motors? See if the problem follows the motor or stays with the axis.

It definitely could be drive parameters. Some drives have a "motor code" parameter that tells the drive which motor it is running. It uses this to set the alarm thresholds such as overcurrent, over load, etc.

If the drive thinks it is running a smaller motor, then the actual bigger motor would pull more current than the drive is expecting and could be causing an over current alarm.

Try swapping the motors/servos like Donkey says and see if it stays with the motor or the servo. If the alarm stays with the servo definitely find some good parameters for this servo before sending it off for repair or ordering a replacement.

If X and Y are the same servos and same motors you should be able to copy the params out of X.

Hope this helps....

Where is you parameters list?

The machine may have a Big Book.
In side you have parameters and setings list and operator manual.
