Hi guys, We've got a new job that requires tapping some 3/8 helicoil holes. I was just wondering if the Haas can do this with the rigid tapping. I've done up to 1/4-20 tap with no problem, but nothing bigger. Any suggestions on rpm? thx |

| It depends on your material but you should have no problems. I have rigid tapped C1018 up to 9/16 NF on a VF0 running at 1000 rpm. Normally I repeat rigid tap going about 0.25" per peck.

Thx Geoff, Forgot to mention the material is 6061-t6. I'll probably do a couple of pecks as i have to tap about 1" deep. I'll start at 1000rpm and see how it goes. The only thing that might cause a problem is that the taps for the helicoils seems to be all 4 flutes at that diameter. thx |

| We tap for M6x1 helicoils in 6061 T655 all the time and the four flutes do not cause any problems. Tapping is simple; getting the %^&* helicoils in is the tricky part until you have the knack.
