| I do a few other things too, like: G53 Y0 Z0 M1 after every tool to make it easier to set up. etc... I've never seen that before, what does that do to make it easier? I would have done the M0 to apply tapping oil but with the TM1 it's all open so I just do it before the tool change. A little moly-d and let it go.

| On the Haas, you don't need to send it home before a tool change but on the Matsuura (that I started on), you did. So my consistancy is to always put a home move in after every tool. I like G53 (Machine reference) because you can call out exact locations in other axis- to bring the Y axis close to the operator for example. I also will call an X position to better position the part for the operator (instead of off to one side or the other if that was the last location). Like if you have a 40" travel table, you can bring the table to the center in X and closest to the operator with: G80 M9 (after drilling for example) G53 X-20. Y0 Z0 M1 It will move in Y axis right away so just make sure the starting point is high enough to clear any obstructions. Or use: G80 Z3. M9 (or higher) G53 X-20. Y0 Z0 M1 The M1 is just optional stop. During set up I almost always have the optional stop button on so I can check each tool's work before the next tool. I like to call up the tool before applying tapping fluid so I can put it on the tool too. Overkill? |
