Z axis not clearing feed plane

Hi, first post, looks to be an excellent forum.
Had a little problem with the Haas TM-1 I use for prototyping at work, not a big problem and was solved for now by moving the clearance plane to Z 0.

Z axis rapid to clearance plane not done moving before X & Y axis rapid starts. This is with Z axis clearance at -.05 which is .027 above cutting plane, with Z axis clearance set at Z 0 then there is no problem. Z 0 is .077 above cutting plane. This is a little part, .493 dia and I'm cutting small slots thru it, .025 wide x .077 long, material is delrin. Is there a parameter setting that controls the X-Y rapid in relation to the Z axis?

Any help will be appreciated, thanks. Jerry

Hi Jbik9695
It sounds like a Gcode Problem more than anything else post your code & I will take a look You can save it in MS Word as text & attach it here

Thanks for your reply, here is the program with the Z axis rapid moves changed to 0. All the Z axis rapid moves were originally -.05, and that was when extra cuts were showing up in the end of the slots.

Sounds like the servo system needs a tune up.

Most machines I have run accelerate harder in G1 moves then they do in G0 moves and so for very short moves you are better staying with G1 and just crank up the feed for the in air moves.

Sorry for not replying, been on vacation
The Haas answer man called and it seems if the clearance plane has a negative value then what I had happen is possible, the cutting plane should be zero and all clearance moves should be in the positive direction, makes a certain amount of sense to me knowing some of the other idiosyncrasies of the Haas.
Can't post a drawing as the project is military in nature.

Okay, Here is my .02...
the Haas man is incorrect. Numbers are numbers + or - a G00 move is a G00 move at what ever Z plane.
.027 above the part is not enough. We found on our VF-2Ss that we have to make the rapid clearence plane a minimun of .035. some thing in the software allows the machine to move in the x,y axis before the Z is actully at the rapid plane. We learned this when we were drilling flushing holes in graphite. If .027 above the part is really what you need to use... insert a G61 ( exact positioning) in the program. Then your program should work without hitting the top. Of course your run time will be longer because the machine will not make the next more until it "for sure" gets to the programed position before making the next move. The easiest thing we found, is to program a minimun of .050 clearance plane above the part.

Did you look at SETTING 57 EXACT STOP CANNED X-Y?
