rigid`ing tm-1 ?

Hello All,
as you all know , tm-1 isn`t so rigid, I realy suffer at this point and my work too , I do not have more place or cash for the moment to buy another and more rigid machine, my idea is to change the ball rails from 3% tension to 8% , or change whole to roller rails 3% tension, this solution can rescue me for a while, the first one is cheaper , the second one is more rigid, the third possibility is : do not change anything it make no sens. I can force the spindle with my hands o move +- 0.1mm ( it is 0.2mm total - 0.008 in ? ) In my opinion this is too much.

Anybody have expierience in that ?

.008 in inch? That seems to be too much did you check the bolts on the back of the Z-axis linear guides to see if they are tight?

In which direction? X,Y or Z?

I don't think you should able to move the spidle with your hand at all.

no , I didn`t described it well, sorry for missunderstanding.

When I attach the dial indicator to the spindle at "Y" direction , in middle of Z travel , I can force the table to move (bend ?) when I push and pull my vise , the dial indicator shows +-0.1mm. This isn`t backlash , the indicator comes back. Manualy I can not put much force, I am not a superman , so a big tool can maybe more ;-)

I know that the biggest problem is that small distance of rails in Y axis, and that can not be improved, maybe tighter rails can help.

Buy me a Beer?

Hi pit202
I would go with the roller rail replacment it sounds like yours are worn quite bad or were bad to start with, We changed a Bridgeport Torqcut 22 to roller rails & it is a different machine & will be doing it to our other 5 mills we have. There should be 0.0 movement
in the head were you are checking it.

A ballbar run on your machine will show if there is something wrong mechanically.

Hi pit202

If your machine is used every day you need to use grease for the Z axes Ballscrew &
Linear slides. Grease once every week if used every day, these are not pressure lubed with oil so if you have not been greasing these parts they will ware out very quickly that my be the reason for .02mm movement in the head.
