| Hi all, Im not new to cnc but have been machining for 15 years manually. I got started in CNC full time 5 months ago and I was wondering if someone could post a sample code for rigid tapping or point me to where I could find some sample code. I use powermill ver 8 and I want to compare the code it is outputting for the haas with some real world code that has been used before on haas machines. I have 10, 1/2-13 tapped holes I need to machine that are 1" deep inside a 1.25" deep pocket. Our company has never rigid tapped in a cnc before so Im the newbie who gets to figure it out. Any help would be very much appreciated. You can also email me at sgrigsby@omniforge.comThe haas machine is a VM6, we just installed it 3 months ago and are attempting to rigid tap. |

| the format for rigid tapping would look like this G84 X****. Y****. Z****. R****. F**. in order for this to work you have to get the feed and spindle speed right. rpm/tpi will give you the feed rate. for example: if the spindle is turning 65 rpm and you want 13 threads per inch you would divide 65 by 13. the feed would be 5ipm the r is just a retract plane, make sure it clears the rest of the job. any ofther questions just ask |

| And make sure you have Rigid Tapping turned on and Repeat Rigid Tapping. Scan through the threads in the Haas mill forum this has been discussed at length several times.

I am am a newbie to CNC and recently purchased a HAAS TM-1P. HAAS offers a trial period 100 hours I think for Rigid Tapping. I have attached a copy of a little check sheet that may be helpful to you in determining if Rigid Tapping is properly turned on in your control whether you are using the trial demo or just making sure you have all the parameters and settings turned on in you machine. So far I have only used rigid tapping a few times but it has worked like a dream for me. If you are using the Demo/Trial mode make sure to reverse the steps and turn Rigid Tapping off when you are done with the job to save your demo hours. I intend to purchase the rigid tapping option when the demo runs out as it makes tapping a no brainer even for a newbie like me. Like Geof has already stated it has been discussed in several threads, but thought you might want to take a look at my little cheat sheet just for grins. John |
