Lightbulb Haas HS-2RP Horizontal mill

Gentlemen & Ladies,

We are considering buying a '99 or '00 vintage of this mill and wanted your input on your experience with it. We will be machining primarily aluminum rings in sizes from 6 to 10 inches. Please recommend other machines that are similar if this HAAS is a dud. Thank you for your input.

I'v eheard nothing but bad things about them mills. Try Matsuura Es-450 They would do the trick and quite nicely. If youre not partial to this then look at mori and makino

Mitsui Seiki HU40A.
I have been running one for 6 years and have nothing but good stuff to say.
It's fast,accurate,and easy to handle.

I didn't intend to start a Haas bashing thread. I own a VF-3 and I'm extremely happy with it's performance. I've just head nothing good about the first generation Haas Horizontals.

I also have not heard many good things about early Haas Horiz machines. From my understanding, till baout 2000 quality was pretty consistant. After that it became worse and more inconsistant. I have a 2000 Mini nad it's a great machine for what it is. I have a 2004 SL10 that is abysmal. I'm in the market for a 400mm Horiz. I'm looking at Mori, Okuma, Makino, Matsuura, Daewoo, Kittamura. All have pretty good reliability records. This would also depend on if you are going to use this machine in a FMC or not. Pallet pools require some interfacing and I'm not sure if the Haas will or not. The number of tools is a huge thing also. But, for me, I would be concerned about reliability.

I've also heard the HS machines were not that good. The newer EC are supposed to be a lot better.

PBMW,

I had the chance to comapre Mori's NH4000 against the Matsuura H Plus 300, and if it would have been my decision, at the time, I would have gone with the Mori. You simply got more machine for the $$$$$$ Since then Matsuura has revamped the H PLus300, but you still get a larger work envelope with the Mori.

it's a bad design, just everything about them isn't supposed to be good. Not particularly reliable.
