Thats what I heard too. 5k short of a new SL-10. Why would anyone bother?

They need to shrink the price along with the weight. I'm thinking 1/2 that price fully loaded with options.

Haas Office Mill

I also emailed HAAS inquiring about the price for the Office Mill. Was told $35,000 US which I thing is way to much for this machine. You can purchase one of their Mini-Mills for $30,000 or a Tool Room Mill for $20,000 If I had the money, I would get one of these machines before spending $35,000 on the Office Mill.

Another couple of nice machines in this price range is the Fadal Tool Room Mill ($19,000) and the EMC model ($31,900) Also very nice machines. It sure would be nice if one of these companies would come out with a Milling machine more suited for the home machinist? Say something in the $10,000 to $15,000 area.

I was also hoping that they would be less- around =/> 20 grand.
Just think how much they are going to be after the spindle upgrades, extra spindals, extra tool holders, axis addistions, software upgrades....
I am still strongly considering getting one however. I guess they see a market need that no one really has a product for, so they can charge a bunch for it. Or maybe it just cost alot to get smaller components to do the same jobs and cram it in a small space?
Does anyone know of a similar machine that costs a little less? Ones that is self contained, small, quiet(er than most), thats powerful with alot of features. These machines would be perfect for my needs but I dont know if theres anything else like them to consider.

Other options...

How about a Light Machines Benchman XT ......
way cool machine ,with a automatic tool changer
about 35k

also Dynamechtronics ,bench type mills with ATC.

Maybe a small EMCO lathe with turret.

All of these are in the same price range, or less

also since these arent very complex machines
you could always build something similar.

I am thinking these (HAAS) machines were built
super precision for the small parts they will be used for.

But still way out of a hobby budget.

Hi All,

I have a new Office Mill and Lathe. The pricing on them is $34999. Well, yes they are not really aimed at the home market. But they are aimed at the small precision market.
Also about options, they come with High speed machining, 4th axis ready and visual quick code already included. ($4485). The 50K spindle is very nice as is the high speed option. I make very small close tolerance parts and I could not find a better mill for THIS application than this mill. Had an older Benchmen and it is not even in the same universe as the office mil, but it is an older one. The real value to the machines to us are 1) the control -operation and the quality. 2) The company- Haas will be here when the others are gone. 3) Service - From all I have gathered The Torrance HFO is excellent and prompt. Again this mill is for small parts the max endmill is 1/4 dia.
I regularly use one down to .005 and have not found a full size mill that is as good or any small machines as good. There are many euro machines that are similar but start at twice the price at least. These machines are priced well considering the precision and the overall quality. Now the lathe is another story it is a 5C machine and can cut any darn thing. They are gang style machines and work as well as you can be creative enough to set them up. Well any how that’s my 2 cents. I just got these guys and am still learning them but if you have questions, ask and I will try to help. -matt
