Ok so I'm new to machine purchasing and have been given the task of purchasing a used mill for our small machine shop. I've mainly been looking at VF-2 units but came across a 2000 VF-0E which looks like it might be a good deal. Cost is about 35K versus 42K to 45K for '01 to '05 VF-2. I can't find much info on the VF-0E so I don't know if I'm comparing apples to apples. Would appreciate any help, links to info on the 0E or opinions. | VF-0E is an extended table VF0.. A VF0 is a 20" travel machine..A VF-0E is a 30" travel machine.. Both are direct drive machine..No gear box..so lower torque than a gear box machine.. A VF2 is a 30" travel machine ..and could come with or without a gear box..depending on the year and options.. Newer machines can have a gear box or not..also the newer ones without gear boxes have Delta/Wye Motor switching. Which is a way to increase low end spindle torque without a gear box.. The older VF0 or VF-0E did not have Delta/Wye switching..which means less spindle torque..

| Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I ended up going with the VF-2. It's being loaded up today and there's a chance we'll have it by the end of the week. I'm pretty excited, even if it means I'll be spending christmas break reading up on how to work it. |
