Hi lo cash
I would check the plug on the spindle encoder is tight and follow the lead down from the encoer i think there is a second connection before it gets to the controle pannel make sure all plugs are tight
best of luck
Figures, I had my local HFO do a preventative maintenance on the machine, and after about an hour of use, I get the following codes:
173 Spindle Encoder Z CH Missing
116 Spindle Orientation Fault
215 Spindle Z Fault
I can rotate the spindle by handle and see the rpm on the screen, but if I try to orient the spindle, sometimes it will orient once, otherwise it will turn partially and error out, and sometimes it won't move at all and just error out..
I tried to call my local HFO today (Friday afternoon, day after Thanksgiving) and just my luck, nobody is working (except me!).. Anyone have any ideas on what I can check?
Specs: 2006 VF2 (no gearbox, just a 7500 rpm machine)
Software Version: 15.03D

Apparently, after talking to a buddy with a brand new 2007 VF2, this is common with the newer Haas encoders.. His failed after a few hours of use at 10,000 rpm, and the technician told him it was a common failure on newer machines.. I think I need to sign up for the Haas repair class, it may pay for itself in the long run (if I buy more of these things!).Since the machine is still under warranty, I'm hoping for an expensive part that is in stock at the local HFO, so it can be fixed Monday.
If they can't get out to fix it on Monday, I may be tearing it apart myself, as I'm already down a day on this job due to the machine maintenance last week..

Thanks for the help, I'll post the results!
It was the encoder that failed, luckily I didnt have to pay for it, as it was under warranty..
Now that my warranty is about up, what will break next?
