HA5C question

Hello,

I am looking at a HA5C on ebay. I always see these being sold with the control box. When you read the ordering page on HAAS it talks about different HA5C models depending on what your application is, as if the HA5C is different internally between a CNC model, and one that interfaces with the control box.

Is the rotary part and cabling the same no matter what? So if I bought one that comes with the box, can I just toss the box, and run the cable to my 4th axis??

Thank you,
Alex

Yes they are the same input. Just make sure you buy the right kind for your machine. They have the standard single plug (Which is the older style HA5C) and now they have the brushless units which have a double plug input. I have a VF-2 with the standard input and a new Mini Mill with a brushless setup.

Any one have more info on this? I am interested in putting a 5c 4th axis in my 2001 minimill. It is prewired for 4th axis what is needed to make this work?
Thanks Mike

You need to buy the right rotary unit to match the 4th axis amplifier wiring in your machine: either brush or brushless. You can convert a brushless machine to run a brush-type rotary but they've made it pricey.

Before 2004, I understand you could get it wired either way from the factory so you might take a look in the cabinet for the 4th axis board and see how it's connected.

My 4th axis looks like all the other axis amplifiers in the machine (brushless) but it's wired very differently and connects to a transformer before going out to the connectors. This is what converted mine to work with brush-type rotaries.

From what I've read in here, it's still possible to connect a brush type to a brushless output but the cost could go toward a newer, brushless rotary.

Press Emergency Button
In settings set parameter 30 to HA5C.
Power off your machine
Hook up rotary to outlet in the back
Turn the machine on.
If you have two outlets (smaller and bigger) for rotary table it means you need brushless unit.
Same as above ,only set Parameter 30 to HA5CB
The easiest machine to hook up rotary to .
Having 2 of them brings me work other shops would not touch.
Really good investment.

Thanks Guys
That helps a lot. Do you know if the cables are the same for a direct connection to a Haas and to connect to the control box for non-Haas machines?
Thanks Mike

My understanding is that Haas rotary will only work with either the Haas machine or Haas box.
I don't think it would work with any other controller or machine directly.
Also other brands of rotary tables will not work on Haas without it's own control.

I guess what I'm asking is if I have either the box or a haas machine are the cables the same for the brushless Rotary? If I were to buy a rotary with the box used, can it be used in the machine with out the controll box with the same cables?

Yes, cables are the same.
However if you can run rotary from the machine it is so much simpler.
When I'm running semi 5 axis HA5C on HRT210, it would hang up if I sent command to the box with negative value such as C-15. But C345.0 works .
No problems from the machine.
I dont know why, but Haas sells new rotary without the box for 6K, with the box 8k, box alone 4k.
