| Hello everyone, heres my first post on this HAAS sections, I got a project for about 80 pieces that I have to face etc... drill and tap a 5/8-11 UNC at 1.5 inchas deep on Steel, 4140 HTSR, the machine that I´m using is a center VQ6, so far I´ve been using G98 G84 Z-1.55 R0.2 F0.0909, capable of tapping 12 holes without breaking, each piece has 8 holes... after I spent several minutes reading the few information about the machine I concluded that particular machine is capable of re-taping, because it orients the spindle... how can I re-tap and with what canned code? should I just copy and paste the same taping section and use a different Z and R values? thanks in advance |

| For repeat tapping you must have Rigid Tapping turned on and also Repeat Rigid Tapping. On some machines these are both Settings and on others one is a Setting the other a Parameter. For repeat tapping I just change the Z depth and have everything else in the G84 line the same.

I see, even if I reset it will orient and then I can repeat the same line but with a different Z value, even easy I can just creat 2 lines for tapping, one that goes Z-.750 and a second one that goes Z-1.55 I even tryied with tapping oil to see if they would last longer but does not and mixing tapping oil with the refrigeration liquid is not so good... will try that soon... |

| I second the recommendation for OSG, you also may want to consider a roll form tap for that particular application. I use an OSG roll tap with a job we have, I tap an M10 1." deep in D-2 Tool Steel and I get about 500 holes tapped before I change taps. |

| I have to say that I never heard of OSG tools... I did the job with a Yamaha tool and cutting oil, the good thing is all the refrigeration liquids were going through a filtration process, there was no contamination of the coolant... thank you guys... |
