I will be switching from using some older cnc machines, 2 Crusader2 control machines that run on SuperMax mills (model YCM-40) going to a New Haas TM-1P. The old machines are mine, the new one is in another shop. I will be closing down my own shop and working out of this new shop. The people at this new shop are new to CNC machining but have a solid business base in stamping and powder coating. At my own shop I use a Log Book for each of my machines to note pretty much anything I can think of that I might be able to use when and if something goes wrong. In the past this has helped me find why I was experiencing problems. From what I understand these newer CNC machines have a lot of this type of information already built in? I'm thinking of noting simple things like, when coolant is changed, how it's changed. Power outages, all problems experienced and solutions implemented. What else should I be Logging regularly that could help me later on? I also have to pick a post-processor to use. From what I understand most choose a Fanuc, but which one do most people like best? It sure will be nice to just plug in a USB memory stick to load programs! This shop chose the USB option. That's it for now... Francesco De Santis Sarasota, FL |

| My suggestions is get the manual for the Haas machine and read...all of it. The Haas will have program editing functions, the possibility of Dry Run operation, a good Graphic simulation, very easy entry of work and tool offsets, many different types of canned cycles for repetitive operations and many other features you will probably have never encountered before. If you do not read the manual you will never find out the capabilities of the machine and will end up ask questions on the zone here that can be answered just by reading the correct part of the manual.

| I will borrow the manual and read it over a couple times. I need to get used to the use of the G54-G59 codes combined with the tool offsets as this is new to me. ON my current set ups since I have only 1 program I can load at a time, I've been setting the origin every time. I appreciate the replies. Francesco |

| Here is a link to a copy of the manual on the Haas website. http://www.haascnc.com/customer_serv...mc/96-8000.pdf If you go through the threads in the Haas forum you will find many that discuss work and tool offsets.

Hi Francesco, Just wanted to say thanks for the GREAT! visit I had at your facility today taking time from your busy schedule to show me around. Also, the visit to your friends shop was really nice. Boy seeing that brand new HAAS TM-1P in action has re-energized my desire for one of those machines. Remember to tell the owner "I am eligible for adoption". Ha Ha I am really jealous of you being able to run that brand new machine. Good Luck, and hope to see you soon. John Last edited by HelicopterJohn; 10-24-2007 at 11:01 AM. Reason: spelling |
