Floppy Drive in a 1995 VF-3 Problem

Can anyone help me with a problem that I have? The problem that I am having is on my father's 1995 VF-3 mill. He purchased the machine approx 2 months ago & it did not have a floppy drive on it. He contacted the local Haas service department & gave his serial # of the mill. They said that he could purchase the 3 1/2" floppy kit for it & install it. We can get the control to download a program to the floppy disc, but we can not figure out how to upload a program from the disc to the control. Can anyone help me with some step by step instructions on this? I have a 2001 Mini Mill & sending the program to the disc is the same, but completely different when trying to send the program to the control from the disc. After I press the F3 key the control adds a (.0) to the end of the name that I type in everytime. I can read (display) the directory of the disc on the control but that's it. The instructions that I have are listed below:

(to upload from a disc) (this does not work)
Press the List Program key
type the file name that is on the disc
press the Mem key
press the F3 key

(to download to a disc) ( This works )
Press the List Program key
Highlight the program
type in the name of the program
Press the F2 key

Any help would be greatly aprreciated. Just trying to figure this out today if I can?

Geof will become famous soon enough

You could try the alternate way to load from the floppy.

In EDIT mode with any program on the screen push F1 to bring up the menus.

Cursor right until you get one that says DISC DIRECTORY at the bottom.

Cursor down to this and press WRITE. (With a floppy in the drive of course )

This will list all the files on the floppy.

Cursor down to the one you want and press WRITE.

The VF1 will have a four number program name but the MiniMill will be five numbers. You should not have problems transferring files but if you do try changing the
program name using NOTEPAD on a PC.

EDIT: I just noticed in your post you had:

type the file name that is on the disc
press the Mem key
press the F3 key

Omit the "press the Mem key" I am sure that is not needed.

Thanks Geof for the advise, when I press the F1 key there are no choices for the floppy directory. This is completely opposite from my Mini Mill. As soon as I press the F3 key it still adds the 0. behind whatever I have typed on the screen for the name of the file. I can get the control to save the floppy directory under a program number of 8999 by loading the disc & pressing the F4 key one time. If I highlight that number, then press the edit key I can see the programs there within the 8999 program, but that is far as I can go with it. I called Haas & they told me depending on what software version this machine had, that they had some versions that had a bug in it for the Y2K deal & that this might be one of the versions that needs to be updated. I am going to call Haas today and let them know that it is running 8.32N software & see if that will make a difference. Thanks for your help & if you have any other suggestions please let me know.
