i need to tap a 5/16-18 through 5/16" 304 stainless, i have a vf-2, any suggestions on sppeds and feeds?

depends what tap you use we use a dormer E534 tap which we run at 160rpm and feed at 226mm/min to tap to a depth of 21mm

ask your tooling dealer for a tap that's designed for stainless. If it's a thru hole you can probably run it at about 300 rpm. Feed rate is set by pitch. Try Exo Taps
