| What year? On older machines with the orange CRT monitor the driver card is poorly installed; vibration can make it come loose. I did a description a few months ago based on the fix we did on a lathe and if you scan through the Haas forum you might be able to find it. I can't remember the exact detals. Take the cover off the back of the monitor and you should be able to identify the card by the cables going to it. You will see it just sticks out horizontally and can flex up and down. All we did was wedge a bit of foam plastic under the end to hold it up.

| Hi If it is the CRT type, it is most likely one of two things. One, a dry joint on the line output transformer ( the one with the wire going up to the side of the tube ) or, There is a little board right in at the front on the left hand side (as you look in from the back), with a 15v regulator 7815. when it heats up, the picture becomes distorted and then vanishes. | tecko: i believe it IS the regulator heating up.. I turned the machine off over lunch & powered back up & it is working. It did the same thing last night & then it worked for a while this morning before going blank again... My question is: can the regulator ITSELF be replaced or do we have to replace the whole monitor? THANKS FOR THE HELP |

| Ok, Just to be sure you can take the back off the monitor case and you will see a mains plug on the monitor. Leave the machine on and unplug the monitor for about 15 mins and plug it back in again, see if picture comes back. Im 99% sure its a 7815 just double check its not a 7915 there is a big difference 78 ie + voltage 79 is - . if you cant get one handy whip open your kids cd player they are both in there in most of them ....LOL...Just to be realy realy sure, remove the 8 small nuts holding the monitor in place, cut the cable ties and sit the monitor on a chair. Turn it on and when it goes faulty spray freezer on the 7815 and the monitor should come back on again.. |

| The cover has been off for about 4 hours now & the monitor is STILL working fine. This almost 100% assures me that this is a heat related problem. ( especially since the monitor is TOTALLY ENCLOSED W/ ABSOLUTELY NO VENTILATION ) I still cant figure why in the world there is no vent. device ( fan / slots in cover / etc. ) Now ... How hard is this to replace? Any soldering involved? Or is it just simply ... Remove & Replace. If anyone could describe what this capacitor looks like or maybe a link or pic. that would be a tremendous help. I would really love to see replacing this capacitor work because we have replaced 2 monitor now & they are not exactly cheap. Thanks so much for all the help!!! I love this forum !!! Not only is it insightful but sooooo helpful too. Just hope i can be of some assistance to someone someday as well |

| http://images.google.ie/imgres?imgur...%3Den%26sa%3DG Oh I didnt think the link was that big, Copy and paste the link. Give the voltage regulator ( looks like a transistor ) a little help with a hair dryer. It still may be a dry joint or loose conection. Gently tap the pcb and see if you effect the picture. use the handle of a small insulated screwdrive... very gently now.. Sory 3 legs need to be soldered |

| oh yeah , by the way... we have replaced a monitor on 2 other machines. Not twice already on the same machine. ( so there's no confusion ) All have been the older crt type. I'm hoping the new style that we now have on a few of our newer machines will not have those problems. |

| youll fix it, there is nothing in a monitor only money $2000 for a new one. you eather have a dry joint or heat fault. now take a hair dryer and a screw driver to it and find out.. go on be brave.. thats how you find a dry joint |
