Anyone have the high speed option and if so how does it work. I am going to to be cuting out a turbo impeller using 5 axis. I noticed that the feed has to be set at 300ipm to move at the speed as if the feed is 15 ipm in 3 axis It is for a new snowmobile turbo project that i am going to start next week. will it get ride of the jumping? The option is $2000.00. Thanks |

| when you say jumping,do you mean lifting up in the air as it cuts,or you mean chopping,or bumping.it will get rid of the chop and bumping,if yours is lifting up and coming back down its not programmed right you need to use keep tool down.cutting with surfs at high speed you get alot of chop or bounce without the look ahead option, first try filter for arcs in the program, helps reduce it also, just a thought before you spend 2000 |

i think what you describe is only the case on the smallest of radii where both rotary axis have to maintain surface speed around a tight corner. this won't be an issue with the linear axes (plural). also make sure the rotary max speed is actually capable of your surface speed under all conditions. I would send a sample program to the haas apps eng. if you have one, they may give more info. 5 axis is very tricky for some geometry, and not really necessary for most. i guess if your cycle time is really critical then you need it. joe V. |

| Its not lifting the tool is down it's jerky. It's like when i do a plastic job at 120ipm in a arc it is consistint and as soon it gets in a tight corner it seems to slow down and get coppy. The Haas tech said the high speed would fix the problem and smothen it out. I think that i have to be in the 7-800 ipm the match a 3 axis 30 ipm speed. Thanks |

| 070518-2200 EST USA High speed machining provides higher speed data processing and greater look-ahead. This will greatly reduce stuttering and shorten cycle time. This does not mean you will operate at a high feed rate, but there won't be pauses between each straight line short stroke. Your feed rate will be determined by you for the particular tool and material. . |

| I have HSM on one machine but have never run a program that would benefit from it. It is in operation all the time but only has benefit when the toolpath has abrupt direction changes. I had a discussion with a technician at Haas about it and the added processor capability of HSM will also allow macros to process faster.

| If your machine is 99 or newer you can turn this on for 200 hours, thats what I just did. Go to settings and turn off the parameter lock then go to parameters and type 315 then hit your cursor down key, it's the fourth option down from the top. Hit your right cursor > to get to it, and type 1 enter, done. It will get rid of that choppy movement your talking about, it reads 80 lines ahead. Good luck. |
