Oil And Coolant Handling Simplified

When you have several CNC machines in constant operation their appetite for way oil and coolant and production of waste oil is significant. We are not large enough to have someone dedicated to going around on a constant basis with a lube cart so I cobbled together small scale alternatives based on the two units shown in the first picture.

The Oil Extractor comes with a venturi vacuum generator and a pick up tube and hose. These were transferred to the Oil Drain Tank which was turned into a Waste Oil/Coolant extractor and separator tank shown in the second picture. This is used to empty the way oil drain bottles on the machines that nearly always get filled with a mix of oil and coolant and which are a pain to empty without spilling. It is also used to suck the tramp oil off a coolant tank after a machine has sat idle for a few days. The level gauge shows when it is getting full and because the discharge comes from the bottom it is possible to let it sit for a few days and discharge the coolant separate from the waste oil.

The tank from the Oil Extractor was turned into a Way Oil dispenser. The top from the Oil Drain Tank that held the big inlet tube and pan was fitted with a manifold that combines a regulated air inlet limited to 14 psi and a discharge tube going to the bottom of the tank inside. The discharge line has an oil filter so that if any contaminants get into this tank during filling they do not get transferred to the machines. The filter is probably overkill because this tank is filled with the full five gallons from a fresh pail of way oil, capped and never opened during use so the chances for contamination are greatly reduced compared with filling the machines from the lube pail with a funnel.

A second Oil Drain Tank was turned into a Coolant Dispensing tank. The cap was just blanked off and the original air inlet and discharge hose left intact. This is just filled with coolant mix in the parts washing sink area and rolled around from machine to machine as needed.

In Canada from Princess Auto but if you Google the the names you will find the same thing or equivalents everywhere.

The machine you see is a GT20.
